Dr. Jerry C. Borsum, DDS Battle Creek Dr. Jerry C. Borsum, DDS, age 77, died at the Cleveland Clinic due complications from Amyloidosis on Friday, May 25, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry, the son of Carl and Edra Borsum, was born on August 8, 1934 in Reed City, MI. He graduated from Reed City High School in 1952 and married his high school sweetheart, Helen (Draminski) Borsum in 1955. He received his undergraduate and professional degrees from the Universtiy of Michigan, where he was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Borsum practiced dentistry in the Battle Creek area for his entire career, maintaining a partnership with Dr. Frank Syc for 20 years. His daughter, Dr. Sharon Dickerson, joined him in 1988 and continues in the practice to the present day. He was passionate about caring for his patients, and was continually advancing his education and skills. Dr. Borsum was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Philip Catholic Church. Professionally, he was a member of The American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association and served as past president of the Southwest Michigan Dental Society. He served on the Board of Education at Pennfield Schools; was a member of Cereal City Lions Club, Pennfield Lions Club, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He donated dental services to the Family Health Center, and volunteered his time in retirement at Battle Creek Health System. He was an avid University of Michigan fan and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fly fishing and spending time at the cabin on the Pere Marquette River. Jerry was known for his caring spirit, quick wit, and a unique ability to make others feel valued and comfortable in his presence. He was committed to health and wellness, and in recent years enjoyed swimming at the Battle Creek Y Center for fitness. He loved sharing time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as his wide circle of dear friends. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen; two sons, James (Deborah) Borsum of Chicago, and Steven Borsum of Marshall; two daughters, Dr. Sharon Dickerson of Battle Creek and Susan (Steven) Mott of Portage; and by six grandchildren, Aaron and Erica Borsum, Lydia and Philip Mott, and Carly and Casey Dickerson.
