Bernard H. Hoffman, born to Louis and Anna Hoffman in Red Bank, NJ on April 11, 1933, regretfully passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. He was raised in Red Bank and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1951. He was awarded the Howard Whitfield Legal Scholarship and graduated from Washington Square College of New York University in 1955. He was a member of the Honorary Historical Society, the Spanish Club, the Pre-Law Society and the Political Forum Club. He was also the treasurer of Phi Beta Kappa and treasurer of the Opera Club. In 1958, he graduated from New York University School of Law. His activities at law school included being a finalist in the Moot Court "B" Division and Phi Alpha Lambda. In 2008, he became a member of the Golden Circle at NYU. He proudly served in the Army reserves from 1958-1964. After law school, he returned to his beloved Red Bank and began practicing law with Arnone and Zager, Esqs. Nine years later, he proudly began his own family law practice. In January 2012, he retired from Hoffman and Schreiber, Esqs.In 1960, he became a respected member of the New Jersey Bar Association. In 1975, he was honored for his services as Chairman of the Family Law Section by the New Jersey State Bar. In 1961, he became a member of the Monmouth Bar Association. He was Chair of the Monmouth Bar Family Law Committee for many years. In March 2011, he was honored by the Monmouth Bar for being a member practicing law for over 50 years. In 1968, he became a member of the American Bar Association. In 1963, he was qualified as an attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1974, he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In 1986, he was designated a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In 1987, he was president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He served as Municipal Court Judge in Shrewsbury for 9 years. Being the wonderful attorney and employer that he was, he was twice recognized as Attorney of the Year by the Monmouth Legal Secretaries Association. He received many honors during his career from many law associations as well as the New Jersey Supreme Court. In the early 1970s, he was a member of the Red Bank Board of Adjustment, Red Bank Civil Rights Commission and Local Draft Board #46. He was very proud to be recognized and inducted into the Red Bank High School Hall of Fame in 2009.Bernie established numerous lifelong friendships beginning with his childhood in Red Bank and throughout his career and adult life. He cherished his work as an attorney and was proud of the wonderful relationships he enjoyed over the years. His children will always be proud of him and his accomplishments. As a father, he is unequalled in the love and support he openly gave to his children. His passing will forever be felt but we are happy to know he led a beautiful life enjoying every moment. He was predeceased by his older brother, Alvin Hoffman and nephew, Brian Hoffman. He leaves behind his son, Alan Hoffman and wife Jessica and grandchildren, Emily and Vivienne of Oceanport; daughter, Marla Hoffman and four legged granddaughter, Pearl of Tinton Falls; and niece, Holly Hoffman of Ft. Lauderdale and nephew, Curtis Hoffman, FL. He will be remembered by numerous friends, relatives and colleagues that he will forever hold dear in his heart. -
