Douglas Richard Achorn, 60, of Thomaston passed away June 1, 2014 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. A longtime resident of Thomaston, Doug was born in Norwalk and grew up in Georgetown. He battled amyloidosis with determination and courage, and never lost his sense of humor, giving his family strength to the very end. Doug is survived by his daughter Jessica Achorn of New Milford; his son Jeffrey Achorn also of New Milford and his daughter Christina of Gaylordsville. Doug is also survived by his brother William Achorn of Danbury; niece Michelle and nephew William and by his sister Sharon of Georgetown.
Douglas attended Wilton Public Schools and worked at numerous jobs including Wilton Chevrolet, Wilton Taxi, Servco Oil, Inc. and for many years was a warehouse manager for Master Electric Supply in Bridgeport. In recent years he worked for Brickett Construction and Performance Landscaping.
Doug enjoyed fishing, both salt water and freshwater and loved sharing his many memories with his family. Whenever a family member needed a helping hand, Doug was always there for us, and he loved his children very much.
