Ray L. Anderton who resided in Erie, Colorado and formerly in Longmont and Boulder, Colorado passed away on March 1, 2016 while in Tucson, Arizona. He was born May 18, 1927 on a farm in Union County, South Dakota just south of Alcester, SD. Ray was the only child of Rayford and Catherine (Coble) Anderton. He attended Big Springs School and Hawarden High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Sioux Falls College, a Masters of Music Education from UCLA, a Masters of School Administration from the University of Southern California and a PhD in Education from the University of Colorado. Ray leaves behind his wife, Leslie, two sons, Steven and Larry (Ray L. Jr.), two daughters, Susan Nakamura and Rachel Setzer. In addition he leaves two step children Jennifer Mathena and Jeffrey Goetzfried. Ray has six grandchildren: Kaya and Koda Nakamura, Ryne and Abby Mathena, and Joe and Mike Setzer. Ray was a professional educator. He taught music in South Dakota, California and in Germany. He began his administrative career in Bitburg Germany. At the University of Colorado he was both professor and an administrator. He was Director of Media at the beginning of the Auraria campus. He considered several parts of his career as highlights. He was the boys' glee club teacher at Markham Jr. High School in Los Angeles. He was assistant principal and principal of schools in Bitburg, Germany and principal of Rocky Mountain Hebrew Academy in Denver and Lincoln High School in Costa Rica. Ray loved to travel. He explored much of the world during his lifetime. Those who love him believe he is still traveling. -
