WALTER MCINTYRE "PAT" THACKARA - SANIBEL, Fla./SOUTH BURLINGTON/ MALLETS BAY, Vt. - Walter McIntyre "Pat" Thackara, 84, of Sanibel, Fla., and South Burlington/Malletts Bay, Vt., and formerly Red Bank, N.J., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 25, 2015, in his Florida home. He is finally reunited with the love of his life, Ginny. He was born on Jan. 16, 1931, and was a graduate of Proctor Academy, Andover, N.H., in 1950. He went on to play football for Duke University. He had an illustrious career at A.G. Becker & Co., N.Y., for 27 years, retiring as Senior VP in the Government and Municipal Bond Dept. While there, he trained many successful brokers, and to this day is one of the most respected men in his industry. He was a gourmet cook, who loved to entertain with Ginny wherever they were. He also played upright bass and was a music enthusiast. He loved to dance, and would spin Ginny around any dance floor, which she adored. Pat and Ginny were avid golfers in their day, and spent many happy hours together on their trawler, "Blue Heron," on Lake Champlain. He was a craftsman in his wood shop, a lifelong hunter, and a fisherman, who still holds the New Jersey state record for biggest Hammerhead shark. He was gregarious, and lovingly called "Chatty Patty" by his family and friends. Known as "Poppy" to his five grandchildren, many happy hours were spent at graduations, Marine homecomings, equestrian events, lacrosse and hockey games, and summers at Camp Ingleside on the lake. Anyone who knew Pat will attest that he was the life of the party, the host of hosts, a tenacious friend, and a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved with all his heart and soul. He was predeceased by his parents, Virgina C. and Charles V. Thackara; sister, Virginia C. Lomerson; wife, Virginia Mason Thackara; and baby-granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Thackara.
